Voting Rights to Indian citizens living abroad

 

Under Section-20 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, inserted vide Representation of the People (Amendment) Act, 2010, every overseas elector of India, i.e., (i) whose name is not included in the electoral roll; (ii) who has not acquired the citizenship of any other country; and (iii) who is absenting from his place of ordinary residence in India owing to his employment, education or otherwise, is entitled to have his/her name registered in the electoral roll of his/her constituency w.e.f. 10th February 2011. Prescribed application form i.e. Form-6A for registration in the Electoral Roll along with guidelines for the applicants is available on the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI) i.e. http://eci.nic.in
